Do I need college classes to learn web design?

As web design is very popular today, there are some colleges that offer web design classes, so some might ask themselves "do I need college classes to learn web design". I am absolutely sure that you will do lot better if you learn it on your own. Simply enough internet is loaded with the tutorials and helpful forums so basically you can learn just about everything by using those. Another thing is, I am sure most college programs are late in terms of trends and popular coding/designing. Because learning programs are taking long time to develop and organize, so at the time they start using it for the classes, there is possibility that some of the stuff from their learning program is getting old. Everything I know about web design, I learned on my own. Experimenting, exploring and practicing are things that lead to successful web designer.  Trust me you will just waste money if you decide to pay for college classes to learn it. Let's talk about things you can do to get started learning web design.

First of all, you need to get through css and html. That is fundamental of web designing and should be your starting point. Go to w3schools and see everything about html/css on there. After you learn some basics, also good idea is to pick some templates from web and see how their coding and design look. You can always learn new things by looking at templates made by others. Also, try to make your own pages and test them locally on your computer. Imagine some kind of company, and make a complete website for it. Take your design and post it on some forums, ask for opinions and suggestions. Also, always good thing is to ask your friend on their opinion on the site you created. Divide your learning process on several parts, and do not move from one part to another until you fully mastered previous one. Practice, practice, and practice. You will do wonders, trust me ;)

Some people have more natural artistic talent then others, and may eventually come up with some great ideas in the small amount of time. If you are afraid that your artistic skills are not so good, don't worry. But firstly, before anything, you need to learn HTML and CSS. It is absolutely essential when it comes to web design. When someone say "I am a web designer", it also means that person know css and html. You should not have many problems with this part. I recommend you to visit w3schools to find some great css and html tutorials. Just Google it and there ya go. If you already know html and css, I would recommend learning photoshop. Be patient, and most importantly: PRACTICE! While learning, you should experiment on your own all the time, and also try to use everything you learned so far to make simple web pages, etc.

After you become confident enough that you can design solid websites, try to get some jobs at freelance site. You can make nice money there, but one more great thing about freelance sites is that you will meet lot of people and employers, and all of them can be your potential partners to earn money. Start to learn web design right now, and good luck!

What web programming language should I learn?

Hi fellows, as title says, I am getting asked very often what web programming language should I learn by individuals that are eager to enter the web development waters. Of course, It's always better to ask then to do wrong thing. Web developer is a really popular job these days and because of that interests from people to learn some web programming languages are growing. First thing I am going to say about this: Be patient! You can't learn anything in a day or two. Now let's see what choices you have here.

Firstly, if you don't know anything about HTML and CSS, please close this page and start learning it. Just joking, well, html/css is something you can't start to learn web development without. So before you go for any of the languages, you need to learn html and css, it is a essential thing and you cannot pass it. There are tons of tutorials about this, I recommend checking out w3schools to learn some basics. But if you do know html/css, then you have some choices to make about programming languages to learn. Firstly you need to decide what are the things you want to do with the pages you make. If you want to make interactive web pages, with all kinds of image sliders, drop down menus, and so on, you should go for javascript first. It is the browser side language and it's very popular. Also there are many libraries that can make your life easier when it comes to javascript. That is a little something about javascript. PHP is also a great choice to make when it comes to web development. It is a server side language which means that code is running on the server which is returning the result to the browser. PHP is great for processing and validating forms, working with databases, etc. So you are probably asking yourself when is he going to answer the question...Well, if I must make a choice, it would be PHP first. Master it and you will do wonders. But don't forget about javascript, also very useful.
