Wordpress

Go to wordpress.com, you will notice big orange button on the left which says: "Get Started Here", when you click on it it will take you on the page where you will choose all the info regarding your username and your website. You can use .wordpress.com sub domain, which is free, but you can also buy custom domain for $18 per year. Enter your desired website address and all other info, then click on "Create Blog" on the bottom of the page. When you confirm your email by clicking on the confirmation link they sent to you, you will be able to choose a theme for your site. All of the offered themes are simple but effective and I recommend using these. Then you will be on your control panel where you control your posts and pages. It's really easy to use and I am sure you will not have many problems with it.

Blogger

Second and also very good option is using Blogger, one of the best, and the most popular blog platforms out there. All you will need to get started is a Google account. I am sure most of the people have one, but if you don't you will be offered to make one when you go to blogger.com. On the starting page you can login to exiting Google account and after that just choose display name which will be used to sign your blog, it's same thing like the author username. After that you will be right on the Blogger dashboard, which got the new look recently, very nice one. In the top left corner, you will find a button which says: "New Blog", click on it. Now you need to choose your website title and address. Custom domain can be added also, and it's fairly cheap, only $10.
